Transportation from / to the airport |
The airport of El Calafate is located 23 Km away from the city. There are two main ways to get downtown, one is by means of regular buses and the other by remises (call-taxis). The latter is the fastest, most inexpensive and safest way if you are 4 people or less. The fares are fixed and if you make a reservation by telephone the driver will wait for you at the airport with a sign reading your name. All the cars that pass through el Calafate are insured and regulated by the town hall, so they are a hundred per cent reliable, unlike the case for other cities in Argentina. |

Cruises & Navigation: |
There are two lake transportation companies, at El Calafate, that make cruises to the glaciers by Lago Argentino, they don’t accept e-mail reservations, only by purchasing at the company office a day before departure. We recommend to purchase it at the local agencies, which all have the same fare. Traveling from El Calafate to Punta Arenas (South of Chile), near the Torres del Paine National Park, it is possible to cover all the Fueguinos channels and arrive to Cape Horn, visiting Glaciers, Nationals Parks, in a four – five days trip, arriving to the City of Ushuaia. Also from Puerto Natales you can travel by ship up to Puerto Montt in Chile, you also can arrive to Bariloche in Argentina, covering all the South of Chile. |

Taxis & Transfers: |
Taxis are the means of transport more faster, cheap and safety to travel within El Calafate, you can make a phone reservation and they pick you up at your accommodation. All cars that operate in El Calafate are controlled by the town council, they are reliable and the rate is calculated by a clock that adds cents every 100 meters. For interurban trips to El Chalten, Los Glaciares National Park, and also to Ushuaia and Chile, there are private services with very comfortable 4x4x vehicles, e-mail reservation in advance. |

Rent a Car / Rent cars and vans |

| |
At the airport operates a rent a car company, where you can rent a car the arrival day and leaving it in at the same airport the departure day, obviously it is more expensive than making an e-mail reservation or rent it at downtown. We recommend to make an e-mail reservation in advance due to availability in high season, especially with local companies who are experts in the region and completely reliable. All vehicles are well equipped and in perfect conditions, there is a great variety, from small units up to 4x4. It is also possible, by paying a plus of drop off, to rent a car in El Calafate and leave it in another city, for example: Ushuaia or Bariloche, (not possible neither in El Chaltén nor in Los Antiguos). All vehicles from these companies have the authorization to cross to Chile and visit Torres del Payne National Park. |
